The Industrial Hygiene Specialist position is part of the Campus and Clinical Division of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS).
This position reports to the Industrial Hygiene Associate Director.
This position is based on the Charles River Campus, but will spend time on the Medical Campus and remain flexible in assignments across all areas and departments served by EHS. The primary responsibility of this position is to support the industrial hygiene program activities on both campuses and the Hospital. Specific duties and responsibilities across both campuses and the Hospital include, but are not limited to, the following: complete biannual eyewash and safety shower flow tests; complete annual fume hood assessments; complete monthly isolation room assessments; conduct fit testing activities; and, assist Industrial Hygiene Senior Specialists with asbestos inspections, equipment maintenance, training, and other hazard assessments due to possible physical, chemical and biological exposures in the workplace. Additionally, this position will work with other EHS divisions, as needed, on EHS related tasks and participate in the EHS on-call program.
Bachelor's Degree in a related field and at least one year of industrial hygiene experience, preferably in an academic research or health care setting required.
Ability to respond to emergencies on campus during off hours, including weekends and holidays as part of the on-call emergency response team.
Should have or be able to obtain the 24 or 40-hour OSHA hazardous waste operations and emergency response training.
This position requires successful completion of a pre-placement physical.
