Director of Estates

Leeds Beckett University
Job reference  ESC301093A
£Highly Competitive

Leeds Beckett University is ambitious and resurgent. A large, modern university with campuses in Leeds City Centre and the mainly residential suburb of Headingley, our income is now in excess of £200m with around 3,000 staff and most importantly 28,000 students from over 100 countries. We are fully committed to student success, research, innovation and enterprise with a global reach and strong local impact.

We also have a clear strategy for the university’s development and the development of our estate plays a critical role in this. The university has recently established its School structure and we now need to reflect this re-alignment in our estate that each School has a clear identity and offer a joined up, first class experience to our students. £200m major projects are currently planned to support our strategy including:

  • A Creative Arts Building on the City Centre campus.
  • A Carnegie Teaching and Research Building at Headingley Campus.
  • ‘Heart of the Campus’ hubs at both the City Centre and Headingley campuses.

However, we have developed a rolling programme of projects, all of which will be very much focussed on the quality of the student experience.

This is a senior, strategic appointment. Reporting directly to our Deputy Vice Chancellor (Resources), your remit will be to provide strategic direction, leadership and professional advice to the university on all Estates matters. Your clear remit will be to deliver an estate that meets the aspirations and expectations set out in our strategy.

A graduate with a relevant professional qualification (RICS, ICE, CIBSE, RIBA, or equivalent), you will have a proven background in estates development and management, already be operating at a strategic level, in an organisation of similar or greater scale and complexity. Key to your success will be your people skills; brokering, influencing, negotiating and driving an agenda that matches our ambition.
