This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to lead a vibrant and wide ranging group of academic staff with a full range of activity across teaching, research and external engagement. The School of Computing and Communications has around 80 academic and research staff and is also home for a number of visiting researchers, and both full-time and part-time research students. The School has the equivalent of over 4772 full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students across the UK and Europe, mostly studying at home.  The School holds the Athena SWAN Bronze Award and is committed to transforming gender equality. Joining the OU at a time of significant change the role requires an exceptional candidate who will have overall responsibility for leading the development of the School providing vision and leadership, and as part of the Faculty Executive Team, develop and deliver the Faculty business plan in line with University strategic frameworks. 

You will need to have proven ability to provide exceptional and skilled leadership and management of the strategic direction of the School, Faculty and University.  You will be active in the wider management of the Faculty as an influential member of the Faculty Executive and University Senior Team, contributing to overall policy development in shaping academic and business planning. You will have a substantial track record in teaching, research and professional achievement in the fields covered by the School.  

You will be appointed to a substantive academic post commensurate with your current standing as Senior Lecturer or Professor; and will be seconded to the role of Head of School for three years in the first instance.
