Marino Institute of Education – Appointment of President

Marino Institute of Education (MIE) is a teaching, learning and research community committed to promoting inclusion and excellence in education. With over 1,000 students, MIE provides undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in education and related areas. Primary education is at MIE’s core and it enjoys a long tradition in teacher education and is committed to quality and excellence in all areas of institute life. Research and review inform the programmes and initiatives at MIE. The grounds and buildings offer an attractive and inspirational environment for study, work, and for conference and training participants.

In the last decade, the academic mission and scope of MIE’s activity has been re-envisioned to encompass a deeper understanding of education in and beyond the classroom, to incorporate the continuum of teacher education and the education of specialist education practitioners at early years, primary and further education levels. This is allied with a commitment to education studies encompassing non-traditional education settings and the wider education environment in a pluralist context. As an Associated College of Trinity College Dublin, MIE has benefitted from a fruitful relationship with the University since the mid-1970s and that relationship has gone from strength to strength with the formalisation of an agreement which places MIE under the joint trusteeship of the Congregation of Christian Brothers European Province and Trinity College Dublin.

MIE’s commitment to excellence in pedagogical thinking and practice is at the core of its activity. It is continuously building on the body of research and teaching and learning, both nationally and internationally, which is informed by an inter-disciplinary approach in collaboration with others. MIE’s staff is dedicated to the personal and professional development of an ever more diverse student body, who ensure that quality outcomes, academic rigour and scholarship underpin all aspects of teaching, learning, and assessment.

MIE wishes to appoint a new President to succeed Professor Anne O’Gara. A leader with a compelling vision for the future, the successful candidate will epitomise the values, culture and guiding principles of MIE; demonstrate a track record of academic achievement; and promote the Institute as a centre of educational relevance, research and excellence. Building on the impressive advancements made at the Institute over the past decade, the next President will be a leader who can inspire the

Institute’s staff and students and continue to support and facilitate a high quality academic environment.
