The School of Design is a new school comprising the disciplines of Industrial Design, Digital Design (including Animation & Interactive Media) and Communication Design. The School will build on RMIT's leading national and international reputation in design education by creating a specific focus on emerging areas such as UX and service design, design strategy and virtual and augmented reality.

The Role and Your Responsibilities

The School is seeking a Senior Lecturer with expertise in Service Design and/or Design Strategy, including current professional practice. The Senior Lecturer will be responsible for carrying out teaching activities within undergraduate and postgraduate programs and for maintaining and advancing their research and/or professional capabilities relevant to the discipline. Professional practitioners with demonstrable research expertise are encouraged to apply.

The position requires demonstrated ability to teach into the Master of Communication Design. The preferred candidate will be an experienced teacher and be able to demonstrate the ability to work at industry standards and integrate their design practice with teaching and research. The position requires a demonstrated commitment to research and a collaborative work ethic.

Skills & Experience Required

Applicants will need to have recent experience in some or all of the following: design research methods; user testing and human centred design; interaction or user interface design; user research; action research. In addition, applicants should have substantial track record in these fields of professional design practice, or have a significant track record of research in these fields. They should also be able to demonstrate significant networks in industry or research contexts, related to these fields of UX and digital design.

Candidates should have a completed doctorate or PhD within a related field, or be able to evidence equivalence based on professional practice. They will be required to undertake activities in line with the university's research strategy that emphasises relevant and applied research to advance scholarship and professional engagement.
