The University's Institute for Molecular Bioscience is a leading global research institute. IMB was established in 2000 as UQ's first research institute and is the cornerstone of one of the largest bioscience research precincts in Australia.

The Deputy Director (Research) is responsible for: the development, facilitation and reporting of the strategic direction of research within the Institute, the quality and impact of that research, the growth of local, national and international research collaborations, and engagement and impact with a broad range of stakeholders, including academia and industry. The Deputy Director (Research) will conduct leading-edge research in his/her field of expertise at a national and international scale.

The Deputy Director (Research) should have high level academic credibility in a field of research aligned to that of the Institute. They should have outstanding strategic skills, including the ability to develop, articulate and sustain shared vision, strategy and to implement it across the Institute to achieve research excellence with tangible outcomes of output, engagement and impact.

The position is full-time, fixed-term for five years with the potential for renewal and subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation for new appointees. A competitive salary package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
