The CUHK School of Life Sciences (http://www.sls.cuhk.edu.hk) houses more than 40 academic staff and more than 150 postgraduate students. The School has major research activities in plant and cell biology, marine and environmental science, neuroscience and stem cells and protein structural biology. The School has 6 undergraduate programmes of four-year curriculum: Biochemistry, Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Environmental Science, Food and Nutritional Science, and Molecular Biotechnology, with an intake of about 220 students per year.
To further develop the School, we are now actively hiring multiple faculty over the next several years. We welcome applicants with expertise of the above areas or related new directions in the School at the cutting edge, in particular:
(1) Plant science research focusing on (a) plant cell and molecular biology; (b) plant molecular biotechnology and genetics; (c) agricultural biotechnology/agricultural sciences;
(2) Marine and environmental science: (a) global change biology, (b) evolution and adaptation; or
(3) Any other disciplines that complement to the development of the School.
Applicants should show potential for excellence in teaching and have achieved an excellent record in research. The appointees are expected to (1) develop a significant independent research programme with external grant support, (2) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in his/her field of expertise, and (3) perform service duties for the School and University. Multidisciplinary research collaborations are encouraged within and outside the School.
The appointees will be provided with start-up funding commensurate with qualification and experience.
Appointments will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, which, subject to mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation.
