Established in 1996/97, the Faculty of Information and Media Studies (FIMS) is a vibrant, non-departmentalized Faculty comprising approximately 1,300 undergraduate and 250 graduate students, more than 45 full-time faculty members and 22 non-academic staff.  Dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about media, communications and information technologies, FIMS offers strong undergraduate and graduate programs in Media Studies, Library & Information Science, Journalism and Communications, Health Information Science, and Popular Music & Culture. The Faculty has just relocated to a shared 130,000-sq-ft building that features media and production studios and an expanded FIMS Graduate Library. The Faculty is linked to the public and private sectors and to community organizations, and its academic environment is characterized by interdisciplinarity, collaboration, creative inquiry, and critical thinking. The Dean is the chief academic officer of the Faculty and a member of the University’s academic leadership team. Reporting to the Provost & Vice-President (Academic), the Dean is accountable for the Faculty’s strategic vision, for ensuring the academic quality and integrity of its programs and operations, for championing fundraising efforts and outreach, and for enhancing the Faculty’s research profile. The ideal candidate will be an excellent scholar appointable to the rank of Full Professor, will have significant administrative experience earned in a complex environment, and must demonstrate a collegial and collaborative leadership style.
