An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Social Work to join our team in the School of Media, Culture and Society.  The School of Media, Culture and Society is a large (circa 2500 student FTEs) multidisciplinary school where the social sciences and creative and cultural industries meet. We are focused on becoming a centre of excellence in media, culture, and society education, knowledge creation and exchange. We offer a supportive and aspirational environment in which staff and students’ work in partnership to create societal and cultural change.

You will have the skills, knowledge, and experience to play a key role in achieving in teaching, internationalisation, research, and commercial activity. You will play a central role in the social work subject group, contributing both to our popular Scottish Social Services Council accredited BA (Hons) Social Work and MSc Social Work programmes.

Applicants wishing to be considered for Senior Lecturer should hold a PhD in Social Work or a relevant area. Applicants who wish to be considered for Lecturer should preferably hold a PhD, or be near the completion stage of a PhD. Applicants who have a plan to register for a PhD may also be considered.  In addition, applicants must be registered as a social worker with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), or other equivalent UK regulatory authority, or be able to demonstrate eligibility for registration with the SSSC. If appointed to the post, any applicant who is not currently registered as a social worker with the SSSC will be expected to complete this process in a timely manner.

You will be responsible for contributing to an excellent student experience by planning, developing and delivering an exciting curriculum utilising contemporary forms of pedagogy. A successful applicant for the Senior Lecturer position will be expected to take on leadership and management responsibilities. You will produce and publish excellent research outputs commensurate with the stage of your career and demonstrate an ability or potential to attract independent research funding. 

An internationalised experience is central to the UWS student experience and therefore you will support initiatives for staff and students to engage in international activities. 

You will be a highly motivated individual, passionate about your discipline and about contributing to the best possible student experience. You will be able to demonstrate a commitment to a successful academic career (research, enterprise, and teaching) and be comfortable working both autonomously and within and across a range of teams, within a line management structure.
