The University of Greenwich is looking for a Java specialist to work within the Corporate Development team, of Business Solutions within the Information and Library Services Directorate. 

You will be part of the team with responsibility for the development and maintenance of key mobile and web based information systems, with a particular emphasis on the university’s mobile application, student and staff portal and student records system.  You will be integral in all phases of the software lifecycle in developing and customising software to enhance the systems in use by all students and staff at the University (approximately 40,000 users located around the world).

The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate significant experience in relation to the key technologies required for the role, including Java, JavaScript, Angular, JSON, XML, Grails, Web Services and ideally Oracle SQL and PL/SQL.  Experience of working within a controlled environment and use of version and source control is essential.

In addition to the necessary technical skills you will have demonstrable experience of the full software lifecycle, including working with project managers, business analysts and senior users as required.  Some project management experience would be an advantage.

You will be expected to be an active contributor within a multi-disciplinary team, well organised and able to manage a wide and varied workload.  The ability to logically and thoroughly document your work is vital.  From time to time attendance to work outside normal office hours, including weekends, will be expected.

The post will be based initially at the Avery Hill campus at the Mansion site.  In 2018, the team are due to move back to the outstanding World Heritage Site of the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.  This is permanent position and the role attracts London Weighting and salary related local government pension.
