The Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies (APIAS), founded in 1998, is a well-established institute which has been a pioneer and leading institute at the forefront in the field of gerontology in Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific region. With a team well-experienced in research and course development, APIAS contributes to the facilitation and promotion of studies and services related to ageing populations and their families. The achievements and collaboration of APIAS are well recognised by academics, local communities and international agencies.
The appointee is expected to (a) lead the APIAS; (b) engage in community outreach for promoting age friendly city, inter-generational health and other initiatives for productive ageing; (c) develop new research and knowledge transfer programmes, and (d) develop new postgraduate studies programmes in the broad area of ageing studies and social care management to meet the community needs.
Applicants should have a PhD degree in a related discipline with relevant teaching experience, excellent publication and competitive grants records. An understanding of and previous working experience with local institutions / organizations related to ageing and social care would be an advantage.
Applicants should provide information on their research interests and evidence of quality teaching. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential. The appointee is expected to have a strong commitment to engage actively in research and contribute to the teaching and scholarly activities of the department. Senior hires are expected to lead in areas of research, teaching, knowledge transfer and service.
The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, housing benefits and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee. Appointment will normally be made on an initial contract of three years.
