The University of Alberta invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean, Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine.  The appointment, for an initial five-year term, begins July 1, 2018.

The University of Alberta is home to North America’s only free-standing Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. The Faculty is renowned for its world class research profile, and for providing outstanding academic training in rehabilitation science, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology. It is a research leader neuroscience and mental health, management of chronic diseases, and children’s health. The Faculty is home to 725 graduate students, 500 continuing professional education students, more than 50 tenured, tenure-track and clinical faculty, and over 150 staff. The Faculty enjoys established and productive relationships with Faculties across the campus, and with many clinical, community, and professional associations in Alberta. 

Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), the successful candidate for Dean, Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine will have demonstrated an outstanding record of scholarly achievement in a relevant discipline, will be appointed to a continuing position at the rank of full Professor, and will have a broad understanding of, and appreciation for, all of the disciplines to be found within the Faculty. The successful candidate must have a proven track record as a consultative but decisive leader, and will have prior academic administrative experience at a senior level. The Dean will strategically manage resources, champion fundraising efforts, and promote outreach through engagement with internal and external stakeholders. The Dean will provide visionary and innovative leadership, encourage collegiality and collaboration, promote excellence in teaching and research, and mentor and empower faculty, staff, and students within the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine.

This position is in accordance with University terms and conditions, and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and will be competitive with public research-intensive post-secondary institutions. Components of compensation will include base salary, a comprehensive benefits package (which can be viewed at, and additional negotiated benefits applicable to the position.
