The College of Sciences at Massey University is seeking to appoint a senior academic to lead the School of Veterinary Science, a world leader in the field of veterinary sciences and the sole provider of a veterinary science degree in New Zealand. The School of Veterinary Science is one of six schools/institutes within the College of Sciences.
The Veterinary Science programme at Massey University is accredited by the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council, the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. The School also contributes to programmes in veterinary technology, animal science, and agriculture. The QS World Rankings recently ranked Massey Veterinary Science at 25th in the world. Massey veterinary graduates are sought after internationally as evidenced by a QS employability ranking of 4th in 2017. Research in the School is both nationally and internationally recognised and focuses on advancing knowledge in animal health, welfare and productivity, clinical medicine, One Health, biosecurity, and conservation. School staff collaborate with leading universities and industries world-wide. The School incorporates a Veterinary Teaching Hospital where a full range of veterinary services and teaching are undertaken and consultancy is provided to industry. The work of the School is also supported by ready access to 2000 ha of land and related facilities on university farms and intensive research facilities.
Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the College of Sciences, this is a permanent Professorial appointment to that College. The appointment to Head of School of Veterinary Sciences will be for a fixed period of five years, with the potential to negotiate an extension at the end of that period, or to revert to the permanent Professorial position. The successful appointee will be an experienced academic with a track record of high calibre research and teaching in veterinary science, and a passion for excellence in research and teaching and advancement of the veterinary profession.
