Harris Manchester College

Principal

The Fellows of Harris Manchester College, Oxford, intend to elect a Principal to take up office on 1 October 2018 following the retirement of Dr. Ralph Waller.

Harris Manchester is the only Oxford college offering a University undergraduate education exclusively for mature students, many of whom have come to higher education by non-traditional routes. We also admit students for second undergraduate and graduate degrees.  This diversity helps create a real community of endeavour, with an atmosphere of mutual support among all our members.   We achieve high academic standards but never at the expense of potential and progress.

Although still small, we have seen a period of rapid growth and improvement, both in terms of our physical assets and, more importantly, of intellectual standards.  Despite this success, we believe we are still at the beginning of our journey.  We look to a new Principal to move us forward to another stage in our story.

The post is a full-time position, based in Oxford.   Our new Principal will have leadership skills, which include energy, courage and imagination, combined with the human qualities of classless empathy, kindness and a sense of humour.  These are what is needed to lead the college as a whole; but will also be essential for fundraising and building external relationships.  To this end, we are not looking for someone with particular experience, but rather an individual who is in sympathy with academics, staff and students, and who has an understanding of the challenges of Higher Education.

Alternatively email belinda.beck@saxbam.com or telephone 0207 227 0880 during office hours. Applications should be received by noon on 1st November 2017.
