Finance at Macquarie provides financial services to support the University's mission of teaching and research. These services include financial reporting to the University Executive, Council and stakeholders both in respect to statutory requirements and project reporting, as well as, preparation and monitoring of budgets in consultation with the University's Faculties and Offices.

The Finance Coordinator will report to the Senior Finance Manager and work within the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Corporate Engagement & Advancement Office.  

The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC), Corporate Engagement and Advancement is accountable for achieving the strategic goals for the University with regard to corporate engagement, advancement and the Macquarie University brand.

The Role

The tasks and responsibilities of the role include PO and invoice management, month end management accounting duties, variance analysis and monitoring of expenditure against budget/forecast, preparation of financial reports and acquittals for grants, financial analysis and assisting with the annual forecast and budget processes.

This role develops strong, credible relationships with stakeholders across the organization both within the direct office that is supported, in addition to Faculties and OFC central as appropriate.  This role also provides impact analysis and advice on the business models applied across activities in the portfolio.

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this position applicants must address the selection criteria below and attach as a separate document as part of the application process:

  • Bachelor Degree (major in Accounting) or equivalent
  • Demonstrated good organisational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise, working well under pressure.
  • Significant experience in preparing variance analysis, and providing commentary.
  • Experience in overhauling processes, re-designing activities, thinking outside the box and engaging with partners to make step-changes in the way core operational activities are performed
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Significant experience and knowledge in core financial functions, frameworks, models and approaches;
  • Demonstrated experience of financial analysis

Salary Package: from $90,330 to $97,937 (HEW Level 7), plus 9.5% employer's superannuation
