About the opportunity
The School of Aerospace Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering (AMME), University of Sydney, is one of Australia’s leading research and teaching Engineering Schools, with degree programs in Mechanical, Mechatronic, Aeronautical, Space, and Biomedical Engineering. The School has a student body of over 1800 students and has seen strong growth in demand for teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
AMME staff conduct world leading research and development in the areas of aerospace, biomedical, combustion, design, fluid dynamics, materials, rheology, robotics and thermodynamics. Based on a strong growth in student numbers and an outstanding record of research excellence, we are currently looking to fill a number of continuing teaching and research positions across a variety of levels and research areas within the School of AMME. The successful candidate will be offered a continuing appointment on a full-time basis, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees.
With these appointments, the School of AMME aims to strengthen its position as an international leader in research that contributes to the solution of key global problems such as energy security, the environment, innovative manufacturing and improved living standards. We are seeking applicants with demonstrated research and teaching excellence across a broad range of mechanical engineering fields. Candidates with innovative approaches to multi-disciplinary research and potential for strong interactions with industry as well as with existing research strengths in AMME are encouraged to apply.
The School of AMME has maintained outstanding research performance in Mechanical Engineering over a number of years, regularly being ranked amongst the top Mechanical Engineering Schools in Australia. The Mechanical Engineering program includes research and teaching in the areas of statics, dynamics, solid mechanics, materials, design, rheology, combustion, structures and thermo/fluids. The research program includes the Centre for Advanced Materials Technology, the Clean Combustion group and the Fluid Dynamics Research group, amongst others. We are seeking to appoint one research and teaching focused Level B/C (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer) in areas related to our core Mechanical Engineering disciplines, including in particular mechanical design, innovative manufacturing, dynamics, micro-machines, thermo and fluid dynamics, sustainable engineering, renewables and mechanism design, but candidates with strong track records in all areas of mechanical engineering are encouraged to apply. Detailed application instructions are included below.
As a member of the AMME staff, in addition to leading research you will be expected to take responsibility for lecturing in up to two units of study. Specific areas of teaching will be determined in consultation with the Head of School and may comprise 1st and 2nd year introductory engineering units of study as well as specialist higher-level electives associated with your research area. Teaching experience in engineering is a requirement for this position.
Applications should include a research and teaching plan (not to exceed five pages), a detailed resume including a publications list, and the names and addresses of at least two references. The research and teaching plan should include half a page to one page outlining a program of research that you will lead and providing a strategic vision for your future research.
