Details of Position
The Higher Institute of English is a degree awarding, higher education institute which opened in October 2016. It is a joint initiative between the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Higher Education. The Institute is a key part of Mauritania’s strategic aim to boost its international trade and relationships. The degree programme in International Communications is being developed to support that strategy. The Institute is expanding its provision and is recruiting teachers for both its degree programme and an expanding demand for part-time courses for employees of State organisations and private companies.
The Higher Institute is looking for experienced teachers of business. This experience could have been gained in a further education college or university.
Teachers will be very much involved in developing courses and so will have the opportunity to contribute to curriculum development and course design.
First-hand experience of working in business would be an advantage.
Experience of teaching project/portfolio-based courses would be helpful. Similarly, knowledge of the assessment and the internal moderation of such courses would be welcome.
The Institute is on a three-year programme of expansion. Student numbers are increasing substantially each year. In the short period from opening last October, the Institute has already gained an excellent reputation and so demand for places is high. In addition to the new purpose-built building in which the Institute opened, a building programme has been started to increase the capacity substantially and provide a range of additional facilities for students.
A key part of this expansion is the growth in numbers of the team of British teachers. For this second year of operation, the team will include at least 15 British teachers and is set to grow further in the following year. The Mauritanian authorities are keen to ensure that the British teachers feel at home and so provide support in welcoming new teachers and helping them to settle in. This extends to assisting teachers who wish to experience the diversity of culture in the country.
Only candidates who meet all three of the following requirements will be considered:
- Business or management teaching experience
- Native English speaker (mother tongue)
Salary and Benefits
