Food Science and Technology Examiner Responsible needed for the International Baccalaureate®
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) is currently seeking an experienced individual to take on the role of Examiner Responsible for its new Food Science and Technology course.
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) is a non-profit educational foundation offering challenging programmes for a worldwide community of schools. It is now represented in over 145 countries and in over 4,600 schools. The IB provides an international pre-university curriculum and an international university entry qualification, which gives access to higher education on a worldwide basis. The IB’s Food Science and Technology course is for students aged 16-18 and will teach students about key aspects of food science and technology including nutritional science, food processing, safety and quality, and food related issues with impact on society. The course requires the use of scientific methodology, gaining evidence from observation and/or experimentation.

The Examiner Responsible (ER) will serve as the external advisor for the course. This involves reviewing the yearly content of proposed IB assessments, ensuring sufficient curriculum coverage, appropriate level of difficulty and adequate discerning factors. The ER will also be expected to mark candidate work and in give advice on curriculum and assessment issues as required.
Occasional (paid) travel to the IB Global Centre, Cardiff, UK may be required.

Please note that this position is part-time, involves no relocation, and is usually undertaken in addition to existing work commitments. Examiners will be given clear instructions and be well supported throughout the process.
We are seeking an experienced individual with the following background:
- Qualified to at least degree level in Food Science and Technology or a related subject
- Teaching experience in Food Science and Technology or a related area
- Interest in working with a developing course
- Interest in working with a growing team of examiners
- Examining experience (desirable but not essential).
The IB is committed to developing international mindedness and an awareness of multiple perspectives. These are goals at the heart of this course as food technologists need an understanding of food science and its technological application, as well as imagination and creativity, to be able to develop new solutions to global needs.
