Chief Operating Officer, University of East Anglia

Founded in 1963, the University of East Anglia (UEA) is an internationally-renowned university providing high-quality academic, social and cultural facilities for over 16,000 students. The institution is ranked amongst the top 200 universities in the world (Times Higher Education) and in the top 15 in the UK in the 2018 Times/Sunday Times and Complete University Guide. UEA has been consistently in the top five English mainstream universities for student satisfaction since the National Student Survey (NSS) was established and was recently awarded Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework. Both the THE and Leiden rankings currently place UEA in the world top 100 for research citation impact.

The University is located in 362 acres of beautiful parkland, on the edge of the vibrant cathedral city of Norwich. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees across the arts and humanities, science, the social sciences, medicine and health sciences. The campus is part of the Norwich Research Park (NRP), one of Europe’s centres of excellence in life and environmental sciences research. The NRP is an internationally-recognised community of world-ranked partner research institutions, higher education and technology-based business.

UEA now wishes to appoint an individual of exceptional leadership capacity to the newly-created role of Chief Operating Officer. Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, the COO will be a member of the Executive Team and have the opportunity to make a major contribution to the delivery of the University’s strategic ambitions through the provision of world-class professional services and infrastructure.

The successful candidate will be strategic-minded and forward-thinking, possess a track record of successful delivery, and demonstrate the ability to engage successfully with the University’s student, academic and professional staff communities, as well as with key external partners. Crucially, the appointee will embrace the University’s mission and be committed to delivering the highest levels of excellence.
