Salary: $145,685 - $160,500 p.a. (Level D) or $187,654 p.a. (Level E), plus 17% superannuation. Level of appointment is subject to qualifications and experience.

The Associate Professor/Professor in Food Science provides strong academic leadership within the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences. The Associate Professor/Professor contributes their exceptional scholarly expertise, strategic planning and academic management to the refinement and enhancement of student opportunities to build and deliver world class academic programs in the field of Food Science.

Reporting to the Head of School, the incumbent will utilise their proven leadership qualities to help influence excellent outcomes for teaching and learning in the discipline of Food Science for The University of Melbourne and develop excellence in others, through leading by example and mentoring of staff. The incumbent works with senior colleagues to set directions for the Faculty's future, developing programs and initiatives using multidisciplinary approaches that take advantage of the design research culture within the Faculty.

The appointee will be a well-respected leader internationally within their discipline and the successful candidate will also bring a sustained track record in academic engagement with the vision and capacity to help shape academic teaching and research.
A key contribution of the incumbent is to undertake a leading role in fostering the research program in Food Science related areas, and enhance interdisciplinary research within the Faculty and University in collaboration with external organisations.

The incumbent will play a key role in fostering and strengthen existing relationships with key research partners and other relevant University groups and external research organisations and industry partners. The incumbent will also build the departmental expertise in an area of food science that is either complementary to the current strengths of the group in areas of food innovation.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake the responsibilities of a Professor of the University and the Faculty as outlined in: University Expectations of a Professor and Faculty Expectations of Academic staff. All Professors are members of the Academic Board of the University.

The successful candidate will be appointed at either Academic Level D or E, dependent upon the Selection Panel’s assessment of the level of academic achievement of the individual.
