Description of Work Unit

CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Position Summary

This position will participate in an interdisciplinary team that is examining climate change impacts on natural resource impacts on U.S. Air Force installations throughout the world. The incumbent will be required to work collaboratively with a diverse team to provide GIS analysis for various portions of the project. Work will include manipulation of data layers, research on publicly available data layers, map creation and overlay analysis. Work will be based in Fort Collins.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, natural resources, spatial ecology or other closely related field.
  • Certificate or above in geographic information systems.
  • Proved research skills in conducting interdisciplinary spatial analysis.
  • Experience supporting teams with tight timelines.
  • Familiarity with ecological concepts and climate change research.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.

  • Proven experience working with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Proven ability to respond quickly to multiple requests.

Essential Duties

Job Duty Category Data Correction Duty/Responsibility

Collect GIS data from publicly available sources. Correct both military and public data sources to be compatible with data from other team members.

Percentage Of Time 25% Job Duty Category GIS Analysis Duty/Responsibility

Manipulate geographic data files and databases to facilitate analysis by installations and other team members. Develop publishable maps for reports. Conduct spatial analysis to support core team analysis such as vulnerability assessments.

Percentage Of Time 65% Job Duty Category Data Management Duty/Responsibility

Develop and maintain data management systems and assess data quality. Attend weekly team meetings and occasional longer workshops to keep up-to-date on progress of other team members. Share information with other team members via email or other online sharing mechanisms.
