Macquarie University is building on its significant investment into healthcare by offering the new Doctor of Medicine (Macquarie MD) program which incorporates international clinical experiences for all students, and NSW’s only Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT). The first intake for DPT program graduated in July 2015. This 3-year entry-level professional Masters (extended) degree joins a suite of existing and future allied health degrees to offer health professional education. Research is a priority at Macquarie University and this position provides an opportunity to contribute to the development of a strong physiotherapy research program with opportunities for inter-professional research collaborations.

We are seeking to appoint an early career academic (Lecturer) to contribute to the medical and physiotherapy teaching and research programs.

In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to learning and teaching in medicine and physiotherapy across several key areas of practice;
  • Develop and enhance curricula;
  • Design and implement methods to assess student learning;
  • Convene units of study and supervise research students;
  • Contribute to research, producing publications and applications for research grants; and
  • Contribute to promotion and development of the physiotherapy discipline Department of Health Professions and Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
  • Contribute to initiatives and committees that support the academic mission, administration and operations of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and MQ Health

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this position you must respond in a statement (maximum 5 pages) addressing the selection criteria and upload this as a separate document in the application process.

Essential

  • A PhD (or near completion) in a relevant discipline; or physiotherapy specialisation and completion of a post-graduate degree in Physiotherapy
  • Registration (or ability to gain registration) with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and one or more of the following areas of physiotherapy: cardiorespiratory, neurological, paediatrics, gerontology, occupational health, women's health, evidence based practice, professional practice, inter-professional practice, health policy and advocacy, pain management, health promotion and chronic disease management
  • A well-articulated research agenda and a track record of good quality publications relevant to stage of career
  • Demonstrated academic knowledge in the discipline and a commitment and capability to deliver high quality learning and teaching, including the design, delivery, and management of lectures, tutorials, and assessment
  • Demonstrated experience to make a useful contribution to the academic life and administrative tasks of the Department with a track record of effective teamwork

Desirable

  • A demonstrated ability to attract internal and external funding for research and a record of competitive grant success
  • Experience in research supervision

Note: Employment in this position is conditional upon holding a Working with Children Check Clearance. This position requires criminal record and qualifications checking. 

Salary Package:  from $ $99,879 to $118,174 p.a (Level B), plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading.  Pro-rata rates apply for part-time appointments.
