Two permanent fulltime positions in Mathematics Education

Applications are invited for two permanent full time positions at Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level (equivalent to Assistant/Associate Professor in the USA system) in mathematics education in the Department of Mathematics. We welcome applications from excellent academics who are interested in joining our vibrant research and teaching group in the Mathematics Education Unit. Candidates’ research expertise should complement and enhance the existing research strengths in the Mathematics Education Unit. We expect that at least one of the appointments will be at Lecturer level.

Candidates are expected to develop and lead innovative research programmes (theoretical and empirical), collaborate with other researchers within and outside the University, supervise graduate students (domestic and international), teach undergraduate and graduate courses, apply for competitive research grants, and contribute through high-quality service and outreach activities. The positions are intended for candidates with a PhD in Mathematics Education, Learning Sciences, Cognitive Science, Mathematics or related field and who have demonstrated, or have the potential to make excellent international contributions in mathematics education. Evidence of a strong mathematics background is necessary, and evidence of the ability to attract grant funding is advantageous.

We are looking for visionary academics to build on the 25-year legacy of research and teaching excellence in the Mathematics Education Unit within the Department of Mathematics. Our department is the largest and strongest mathematics department in NZ and offers programmes in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Mathematics Education. The interaction between research mathematics and mathematics education is an important feature of this environment.
