One PhD fellowship in process metallurgy is available at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, NTNU. Candidates with strong interest in metallurgical processes and a master degree in materials science, physical chemistry, or a related field are invited to apply. The PhD research is in the area of pyro metallurgy in which high temperature heterogeneous reactions are investigated. A particular focus shall be on the carbonaceous materials analysis and their high temperature reactivity with slags. The project will require the use of high temperature furnaces, commercial thermodynamic software, and advanced materials characterization technique. The research is part of a European research project (ENSUREAL), and is carried out in cooperation with other academic/research institutes and industry both in Norway and abroad. We search for a person that is creative, innovative and can work independently, possesses good communication skills, and integrates well into a team.

The regulations for PhD programs at NTNU state that the applicant must have a master degree or equivalent with at least 5 years of studies and an average grade of A or B within a scale of A-E for passing grades (A best) and C or better on the BSc. Applicants must agree to participate in a structured doctoral study program within the period of the appointment. A contract will be drawn up regarding the period of appointment and work related duties.

The primary workplace will be Department of Materials Science and Engineering, NTNU, Trondheim, Norway. The appointment of the PhD will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees. All applicants must be able to communicate fluently in English (in speaking and writing). The appointment has a duration of 3 years.

The position as PhD research fellow is remunerated according to the Norwegian state salary scale. There is a 2% deduction for superannuation contribution.
