Additive manufacturing (AM) is a revolutionising process that allows the rapid production of three-dimensional components layer by layer in a single process directly from a computer aided design (CAD). The technology has been successfully used to make complex parts, such as medical implants, engine parts and aerospace components. Funded by Siemens AG, an exciting opportunity has become available for three PhD candidates to research the fundamental mechanisms involved in the additive manufacture of ceramic matrix composites for gas turbine applications.

Eligibility

To be considered for scholarship you must hold, or be currently completing a degree in Mechanical, Additive Manufacturing or Materials Engineering or a related field such as Applied Mathematics:

  • a Master by research
  • a Master by coursework with a significant research component graded as high distinction, or equivalent
  • a Honours degree achieving first class honours
  • a 4 year bachelor degree achieving a GPA of 4 or equivalent (80% or above).
