LECTURER (MUSIC) Popular Performance - Vocals or Guitar

The Faculty of Performing Arts seeks to appoint a full-time Lecturer in Music in its School of Contemporary Music (SoCM), Singapore’s leading educational institution for developing young music talent from the Southeast Asian region into highly individual artists for the contemporary music industry. The Faculty is known for its engagement with experimental forms of music performance, and the SoCM welcomes applicants with interests in nurturing emerging musicians to find their own performance style and write their own songs and compositions.  

SoCM offers three awards the BA(Hons) Music, Diploma in Music, and Diploma in Audio Production. The SoCM seeks a Lecturer with expertise in teaching popular music performance and repertoire, with special expertise preferred in either popular singing/vocals or guitar.  The Lecturer will provide leadership in relation to their specialisation through main study lessons either vocal or instrumental, as well as facilitate music workshops, ensembles and performances. Reporting to the Programme Leader, the successful applicant will teach predominantly in the Diploma in Music programme. 

As a Lecturer at LASALLE, your key responsibilities include academic preparation; teaching and delivery of specialised music skills and music performance to ensure the students’ learning objectives are met. You will work collaboratively with other staff in the SoCM in enhancing the strategic and organisational plans and ensuring that the SoCM achieves its strategic ambitions and objectives. The position includes administrative tasks, such as, curriculum and repertoire review and development, and assists the Programme Leader in timetabling, performances and resources required to support the programme.  

Other responsibilities include coordination of academic learning activities, liaison with part-time teaching staff, conducting assessments and marking, student mentoring and recruitment. You will also implement research/professional practices to extend knowledge of an appropriate subject area for the benefit of the programme and the students. We particularly encourage applications from individuals with a developing or established professional and/or research profile. 

Requirements:

  • Postgraduate qualification, preferably at PhD level, or equivalent in a relevant discipline with substantial professional experience
  • At least 5 years of tertiary-level teaching experience within a multicultural context, with knowledge of Higher Education Quality Assurance Framework; and 
  • At least 3 years of full-time relevant professional experience with strong specialist knowledge of contemporary music and its repertoire, and preferably with extensive industry experience as a popular music performer
  • Experience with and/or awareness of local and regional music industry, as well as a strong professional practice, will be an added advantage
  • A passion for teaching with ability to nurture and encourage excellence in student learning
  • Possess excellent communication, organisational and team working skills and academic administration skills
  • Good proficiency in MS Office suites
  • A positive attitude to research, and preferably a personal research profile
