The University is looking for qualified and experienced individuals for the following position:

The positions are tenable at BIUST Campus, Palapye.

The successful candidates will be appointed on a pensionable or contract basis. 

FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL, ENERGY & INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING

Professor, Industrial Engineering/ Design and Manufacturing Engineering.

Main Purpose of the Jobs

To teach and educate undergraduate and graduate students in an academic discipline and to build the knowledge base of the discipline through research and publication. 

  • To administer teaching and research activities within the discipline.  
  • To provide leadership in the University, the Faculty and the Department, and to develop the next generation of academics; 
  • To play a leading role in improving the teaching and research infrastructure of the Department, Faculty and University.
  • To be active in some form of professional and community service.

Qualification: 

PhD in any of the following areas:
(i)    Production Engineering, (ii) Industrial Engineering, (iii) Design and Manufacturing Engineering, (iv) Mechatronics (v) Control & Instrumentation or any other related area.

Experience: 

  • Minimum of ten (10) and six (6) years post-doctoral teaching and research experience for Professor and Associate Professor positions respectively.
  • Ability to teach, research and provide leadership in at least two (2) of the following areas: Mechatronics, Measurement & Instrumentation, Industrial Process/Plant Control, Industrial Systems, Operations & Services, Industrial Engineering, Operation Research, Manufacturing Sytems & Technology, and Design forManufacturing.
  • Teaching experience, research or cognate industrial experience, publications and creative works and engagement in projects or services for the profession or the community are essential.
  • Experience in successful supervision of postgraduate students.
  • Evidence of research grants awarded.
  • An excellent record of publications in reputable refereed journals is required with at least:
    • 30 papers for Professor
  • Engagement in projects/services that benefit the University, the profession and the community.
  • Demonstrated and sustained excellent leadership in academic and professional fields (e.g. mentoring junior academic staff, etc.).
  • Experience in student-centred and problem based learning is desirable.
  • A record of peer reviewed publications suitable for appointment at a Professor and Associate Professor level respectively.
  • Experience in course and curriculum development/review.
  • Experience in organization and resource management including the management of academic and support staff.

Competencies:

  1. An in-depth understanding of own specialisation to enable the development of new knowledge, innovation and understanding within the field 
  2. Ability to prepare and submit proposals and applications to external bodies e.g. for funding and accreditation purposes.
  3. Computer proficiency 
  4. Understanding of academic management structures and their functioning
  5. Excellent knowledge of the international academic discipline environment.
  6. Involvement in professional activities where applicable.
  7. Very strong communication skills. 
  8. Ability to disseminate conceptual and complex ideas to a wide variety of audiences using appropriate media and methods to promote understanding
  9.  Ability to be routinely involved in complex and important negotiations both within the Faculty and with external bodies
  10. Ability to supervise projects and graduate students
  11. Ability to  synthesise information  to design learning experiences
