Associate Professor in Secondary English (Grade 9)

The role: 
Based in one of the UK’s very best Education departments, with an outstanding reputation for excellence in teaching, research and employability of our students, you will make a significant contribution to research and teaching alike.  Taking on a major role in our PGCE Secondary team, you will teach trainees English subject and pedagogical knowledge in line with their needs.  Contributing to the recruitment and supervision of postgraduate research students, you will prepare and support Masters level assignments. Crucially, you will secure funding for, and carry out world class research that is characterised by its originality, significance and rigour.

You’ll need:

  • A good first-degree, complemented by a PhD PhD in Education or related subject  
  • The ability to produce research that is recognised as internationally excellent, including a research plan which supports the activities of the department.  
  • Proof that you have established and led research groups, mentoring research colleagues.
  • An innovative approach to designing and delivering high quality teaching or assessment of learning - from lectures, to small groups, to the use of technology.  
  • Qualified Teacher and HEA (or equivalent) status, with experience of working as a teacher in UK secondary schools, knowledge of the latest initiatives in teacher education, and the ability to teach our students to an exceptional standard.  
  • Confident leadership and communication skills, with the willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team.
