The Research & Innovation Portfolio oversees research and research training across the University through the development and implementation of RMIT University's strategic research priorities and managing research systems and reporting requirements.

The Role & your responsibilities

To apply, you must have expertise in reviewing legally binding research arrangements, have confidence in your ability to review contracts and have a positive and collaborative approach to working with your stakeholders. Knowledge of the research and innovation landscape in Australia is important because the job involves reviewing contracts relating to competitive grant awards as well as negotiated commercial research contracts. You will help researchers and other staff navigate internal compliance processes and help them assess commercial considerations and risks that arise in their contracts. You will work with the Senior Manager to help mentor a small team of research contracts officers and administrators. You may also work on specific projects regarding process improvement.

This role needs a person who can provide warm and friendly, high-level, customer-focussed service to internal and external stakeholders, has significant negotiation and influencing skills and a very keen eye for detail.

Skills & Experience Required

We are looking for a person with substantial experience in a legal, management and advisory role, preferably within the higher education sector. You will have demonstrated experience in reviewing a wide range of legally binding agreements, and the ability to give clear, concise feedback and advice to stakeholders using natural language.

Your excellent communication skills and ability to advise, influence and negotiate effectively together with demonstrated ability to use initiative, judgement and problem-solving skills in order to provide creative and practical solutions to problems will be essential. Digital competence will be well regarded.

Legal skills will be well regarded in conjunction with excellent customer-service skills.
