We have an ambitious growth agenda for the commercialisation of our research. Over the past five years, world-leading experts in the School have attracted external funding in excess of £12m. Scottish Centre for Enabling Technologies (SCET) is at the core of our vibrant commercially orientated academic community, offering a range of commercial and R&D activities and has operated successfully since 2008, assisting over 300 organisations in various sectors and covering a range of advanced software technologies, many related to the health sector. During this time, SCET has helped companies to create almost 600 jobs and safeguard a further 1,000 jobs, and has increased company turnover by over £100million. To further grow the commercialisation in the School and support the strategic development of SCET, we are seeking to recruit a talented Head of Business Development. This is a far-reaching role with responsibility for ensuring that the Centre is self-sustainable by growing in line with our ambitious targets and delivering technical products in line with clients’ expectations. The key success factors will be the development of product and market strategies, delivering the sales growth, and managing the technical delivery team to ensure they produce quality products.
The successful candidate should possess a degree, preferably in a computing/business subject. You should have a proven track record in business planning, strategy development, software development processes, software productisation/licensing and external income generation. In-depth knowledge of the health sector and trends in the games industry are highly desirable. Experience of managing intellectual property and developing a software start-up company is also desirable.
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, sales and marketing capabilities, good project management skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team, collaborating with colleagues and sharing expertise are also essential. Travel to client sites nationally and internationally will be required as necessary.
The post is for 2-year fixed term in the first instance.
