Make a difference, every day, to the lives of our staff and students.

About You

An enthusiastic, resilient and skilled professional of exceptional academic stature, you will be committed to providing an exceptionally good experience for all our students and demonstrate the ability to integrate research and teaching. Your well-developed personnel skills and experience of managing an academic department will be key to your success in this rewarding leadership role. Demonstrable experience of close collaborative working with other academics and professionals is essential and may be evidenced through direct work experience or joint working on knowledge exchange projects and funded research.

About the Role

Edge Hill is one of Britain’s fastest growing universities in which teaching and research are equally valued. The university has embarked on a long-term plan to review and invest in its research base, the first fruits of which are reflected in its REF 2014 performance, which saw its quality-related income increase by 355%, the highest proportion of improvement in the sector.

As Head of Department you will push forward priorities for research and for teaching excellence. By providing visionary leadership and well-honed emotional intelligence you will assist in the further development of a culture of high performance whilst making a major contribution to developing the external profile of the department and in supporting a group of talented staff in all aspects of academic performance.

We want you to feel happy when you come to work and proud when you go home.

As a senior colleague at Edge Hill University you will have access to a generous pension scheme, opportunity for corporate healthcare and an environment in which you can make a difference.

From the moment you join us you have the opportunity to enhance your skills. We offer a range of specialist development sessions and academic development opportunities along with an award winning and comprehensive staff health & wellbeing programme (HR Excellence Awards 2017). To support your wellbeing you are able to enjoy a lunchtime stroll across our beautiful campus, book an appointment with our onsite hairdresser, have your car valeted, or get together with colleagues over free food and drink to watch the latest film on one of our Film Nights.

This is just a taste of what we are able to offer you at Edge Hill University.

About Us

“A great success story… an institution that improves and impresses year after year” – Times Higher Education.

Edge Hill is ranked Gold in the national Teaching Excellence Framework, which measures success in teaching quality, learning environment and student employability outcomes.

The Gold award – which has been given to just the top 20% of institutions in the UK and only three Universities in the North West – indicates that teaching at Edge Hill is of ‘the highest quality found in the UK.’ Edge Hill is one of the select few universities to have held the coveted UK University of the Year title, awarded by Times Higher Education (2014/15).

The University has been ranked Best University Workplace (Times Higher Education 2015), judged Best UK Employer (European Business Awards 2016) and highly commended in Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards 2017 for Workplace of the Year.

Edge Hill University offers a stimulating and empowering environment for ambitious and high performing professionals.
