The Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation

The Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) is a unique research institute in Australia as it is a jointly funded initiative of UQ and Agri-Science Queensland and Biosecurity Queensland, part of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF). QAAFI conducts research and development to benefit the food and fibre sector both nationally and internationally.

The Institute’s strengths are reflected in its three research centres – the Centre for Plant Science, the Centre for Animal Science and the Centre for Nutrition and Food Sciences.  QAAFI brings together scientists from UQ and DAF to conduct high-end science that delivers higher impact outcomes for industry and the community.

The role

The successful appointee will engage, as a research fellow, in experimental activities contributing to fulfillment of the milestones for the project ‘Investigation of biotic causes of yellow canopy syndrome of sugarcane’, which has been awarded to QAAFI by Sugar Research Australia (SRA).

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in Plant Pathology or Plant Microbiology with demonstrated expert knowledge in theory and practical methods associated with these areas. You should also have evidence of a contribution to research through completion of projects to the satisfaction of the funding body and a strong publication record.

This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.


This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at Academic level B for 2 years. The remuneration package will be in the range $92,142 to $109,419 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $107,807 - $128,020 p.a.).
