Position Summary

This position will be a special 12-month, non-tenure track appointment, at the academic rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Radiation Oncology, within the Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences of Colorado State University. The functional unit for the faculty member will be the Cancer/Radiobiology/Radiation Oncology section. The faculty member’s effort will be distributed as 50% service in Radiation Oncology, 25% research and 25% teaching.

The successful candidate will join an internationally recognized radiation oncology program that is affiliated with the Flint Animal Cancer Center (FACC). The FACC sees more than 2000 new cancer patients each year and over 250 patients receive radiation therapy. The FACC includes over 80 faculty, residents, staff and graduate students in support of translational cancer research. The Radiation Oncology Program includes faculty positions in radiation oncology and medical physics, residents and support staff. The VTH also houses seven faculty diagnostic radiologists. ERHS’s program in cancer research provides outstanding training opportunities for graduate students, as well as excellent collaborative research opportunities.

The program is located in the Colorado State University James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) in Fort Collins, Colorado. Resources include a state-of-the-art Varian Trilogy Linear accelerator with on-board-imaging and stereotactic radiation capabilities, sliding leaf IMRT delivery, respiratory gating and a Varian Eclipse treatment planning system. Additional equipment at the VTH includes an integrated PACS/RIS/HIS system with digital radiology, nuclear medicine Gamma cameras, a 1.5 T GE MRI and a Phillips TF Big Bore PET/CT.

The successful candidate will have clinical, teaching and research responsibilities. Every faculty member is expected to participate in professional outreach, committee service, and curriculum development. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The position is available immediately with a negotiable start date.

Required Job Qualifications

DVM, or equivalent degree.

ACVR board certified, or board eligible, in radiation oncology.

Preferred Job Qualifications

MS, PhD or other related research training.

Training in inverse treatment planning and stereotactic radiation therapy is highly desired.

The clinical responsibilities will include rotating weeks as lead faculty member of the radiation oncology section. This includes student and resident teaching, and approving all technical aspects of the program (CT setups, Treatment Plans, Planning/Real Time matches, consulting with clients and coordinating with the other involved services. Resident training and participation in resident graduate committees is included in the clinical aspects of the position.
