The Library is composed of three main functional areas: Resources; Information Services and Student Success. It also has three principal Library sites at Swanston Street, Bundoora and Carlton, as well as a library service at Bundoora East and at the Brunswick Campus. This role is based at the city campus.
The Role & Your Responsibilities
This position is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality reference and information services at the direction of the Coordinator, References Services. This includes but is not limited to responsibility for face-to-face reference, Ask a librarian online services, Inservice training, information skills and orientation. This position is expected to actively lead and mentor other reference staff in relation to these activities and will be involved in cross-site working groups.
The position works collaboratively on the development of online tools and services that engage users with library collections and services. It supports the development of reference and subject competencies and assists with collection tasks, projects and user guides (both print and digital). Rostered weekend work and evening shifts are an essential component of this position.
Skills and Experience Required
In line with this role, we are seeking energetic applicants who have demonstrated extensive experience in reference work preferably in an academic library. The candidate should show a proven ability to engage with customers to satisfy their information needs and possess excellent written and oral communication/interpersonal skills relevant to the position. The applicant will require a mandatory Degree in Library and Information Services or equivalent with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of extensive relevant experience and/or education/training. Preferred - Experience in the development of digital materials.
