Professor in Periodontics
The appointee will report to the Head of School of Dentistry and Oral Health through the Head of Department Oral Rehabilitation at the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.
The appointee will be required to teach Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes, providing leadership in the development of clinical research and administrative matters.
Responsibilities will also include working with the HOS and Head of Departments, programme coordinators and colleagues in educational matters; assist with specific tasks; and liaise with staff throughout the school to exchange relevant information for effective performance of the position holder. Duties also include carrying out research and consultancy activities in the areas relevant to the needs of the region, activities related to teaching such as regular review of units and programmes, upgrade of equipment and resources, development of new programmes and mentoring of junior staff and students
Training of dental students involves teaching in various disciplines; theoretical, pre-clinical laboratory and clinical. In addition to this, the successful applicant will also be involved in providing specialist care to patients at the Department of Oral health Clinics and at the Ministry of Health in a teaching environment. Development and participation in Postgraduate program development relevant to the needs of the Pacific island countries will also be part of his/her responsibilities.
A relevant PhD / DClinDent in Periodontics or Masters in the discipline with either a formal tertiary teaching qualification or significant (normally 10 years) tertiary teaching experience. A Professor will have the same skill base as an Associate Professor but will be recognized as a leading authority in the relevant discipline area.
An attractive salary commensurate with qualifications and abilities will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
