The UQ Medicine Program

The Faculty of Medicine is a leading provider of medical education in Queensland, with the country’s largest medical degree program. Its MD program includes graduate entry and school-leaver entry streams, and is an integrated, case-based/problem based learning program. The Phase 1 or preclinical component of the program is delivered by a combination of biomedical scientists and clinicians, predominantly at the St. Lucia campus site, but also at affiliated major teaching hospitals. Phase 2 is delivered at a large number of hospitals in Brisbane, across Queensland and in Louisiana and covers the academic disciplines of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, General Practice, Medical Ethics, Law and Professional Practice, Medical Imaging, Medicine, Molecular and Cellular Pathology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Child Health, Psychiatry, Rural Medicine, and Surgery.

The School of Clinical Medicine

The School of Clinical Medicine has a strong focus on the delivery of both phases of the Medicine program across a number of sites within the Brisbane metropolitan area, including but not limited to, the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Herston; the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Woolloongabba; the Prince Charles Hospital, Chermside, and the St Lucia Campus. Leadership at each site is provided by an experienced academic with responsibility for budget and financial matters, human resource matters and facility management. The School consists of academic staff members across all clinical disciplines and more than 2500 academic title holders.

The role

The Lecturer in Ethics & Professional Practice, will work closely with the Head of Discipline, Medical Ethics, Law and Professional Practice (MELPP) and other lecturers in the Faculty of Medicine to perform the teaching, student support, administration, assessment and quality improvement tasks required to deliver high quality teaching in the Ethics, Law and Professional Practice Domain.

The person

Applicants should have completed or be close to completion of a Doctor of Philosophy in an area cognate to medical ethics, law and professionalism, and have experience in presenting lectures, seminars and tutorials at a tertiary level to medical students. They should be able to demonstrate innovative teaching and learning approaches and the ability to formulate high level assessment tasks using contemporary approaches in medical education.


This is a part-time (0.4), fixed-term position for 3 years at Teaching Focused Academic Level B. The remuneration package will be in the range of $36,857 to $43,768 ($92,142.74 to $109,419.20 FTE), plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% ($43,120 to $51,208).
