Cato Chair of Psychiatry
The Cato Chair is a leading Chair in psychiatry in Australia and is the academic head of the University of Melbourne’s Department of Psychiatry. The Cato Chair plays a critical role in developing innovative and distinctive contributions in the areas of academic leadership, research, learning and teaching.
Building strong and successful partnerships, the Cato Chair contributes and promotes clinical excellence and research activities within North Western Mental Health which is part of Melbourne Health, St Vincent’s Health and Austin Health.
An eminent authority in psychiatry, the Cato Chair will collaborate with other research groups to enhance and foster excellence in mental health teaching and research delivering best practice outcomes.
The ideal candidate will have a distinguished international record in the field of psychiatry and demonstrated leadership in research, scholarship, and strategic academic management. Extensive experience in public mental health services and outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate, mentor others and represent the discipline in the community will be critical.
The Cato Chair is based at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and oversees academic appointees in other research centres, offices and psychiatric units within Victoria.
This is a continuing appointment. An attractive salary package will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
