The University

The Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI) is one of the leading interdisciplinary research and education institutes for sustainable development around the globe. Driven to find real solutions to some of the world’s most significant challenges, MSDI brings together Monash University’s leading researchers to focus on large scale interdisciplinary projects such as environmental wellbeing, social inclusion and a more sustainable future. Collaborating with major institutions including Stanford, Emory, the UN and the Asian Development Bank, MSDI has grown rapidly in recent years driven by increases in grant income and philanthropy.

The opportunity

This senior academic role will lead the Institute’s interdisciplinary research strategy by facilitating and stimulating multi-faculty research projects. A key focus will be driving a program of engagement and building relationships with all faculties in order to co-develop high quality projects that support MSDI’s strategic agenda to address sustainable development challenges. The role requires an international outlook and a strong academic track record of publishing and grant success. Importantly, it also calls for a team player with a track record of building interdisciplinary research capacity and the ability to lead and develop a small but growing team. While not essential, a background in strategic futures planning or scenario planning would be very highly regarded.

Contributing as an academic member of the MSDI executive team, the role will be joining a high performing and engaged Institute to create a global impact. Successful candidates could possess a background in either the physical or social sciences and should demonstrate energy, commitment and a proven interdisciplinary focus.
