The Institute of Art and Music at the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science invites applications for the position of 

Junior Professorship (W1) in Empirical Musicology

to be filled as soon as possible. The position will be offered as a three-year contract. Provided that her or his performance will be evaluated positively, employment may be extended to a total of 6 years. 

The successful applicant will represent the subject in teaching and research. Research should be focused on the domain of empirical musicology. Connections to areas such as corpus analysis, music psychology, ethnomusicology, or music technology are desired, as are solid foundations in current music theory. Furthermore, the integration of the sound laboratory at the institute into research and teaching is desired. The successful applicant will be expected to play a leading role in establishing the subject of Empirical Musicology as a component in the teaching programme of „Digital Humanities and Social Sciences“ at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Interdisciplinary collaboration in research and teaching is desirable, in particular with other sub-jects from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Media Centre, the Faculty of Com-puter Science, the Institute of Acoustics and Speech Communication or the Department of Psy-chology as well as the Saxon State and University Library Dresden and with the University of Mu-sic Carl Maria von Weber Dresden. The candidate will be expected to teach in the expiring BA and MA programmes in Musicology. Furthermore, participation in academic administration as well as the ability and willingness to conduct classes in English are expected. 

Contributions in research and teaching as concerns the subject of Digital Humanities and Social Sciences as well as experiences in interdisciplinary collaboration are desired. Language re-quirements are German and/or English at an academic teaching level. It is expected that the can-didate will bring the less proficient of these two languages up to this level within three years. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 63 of the Act Governing Academic Freedom in Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (Saxon Academic Freedom in Higher Education Act - SächsHSFG). Experience in the acquisition of third-party funding and documented teaching experience are desirable.
