Research Fellow in Infectious Disease Modelling (PCV post)

Faculty of Epidemiology & Population Health

Salary:   £38,533 to £43,759 per annum, inclusive.
Closing Date:   Friday 22 September 2017
Interview Date:   To be confirmed
Reference:  EPH-IDE-59B

We are recruiting two new Research Fellows in Infectious Disease Modelling to join our growing team of vaccine epidemiologists, modellers and economists at LSHTM working on issues relevant across high, middle and low-income settings. Recent successes include receiving funding from: the National Institute for Health Research (to start a Health Protection Research Unit in Immunisation with Public Health England), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (to conduct a pneumococcal schedules trial in Vietnam), Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance (to provide global vaccine model impact estimates), the World Health Organization and the Medical Research Council. Following these successes, the Department is expanding its team to create two new posts for mathematical modelling.  The first post will have a focus on the Human papillomavirus (HPV) and the latter on pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) modelling.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) and pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) modelling are key parts of this research. HPV and PCV modellers here have frequently provided evidence to the UK’s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), WHO’s Strategic Group of Experts on Immunisation (SAGE) and the board of Gavi.

Other HPV and PCV-related grants are in submission or preparation and the post-holder may have the opportunity to be part of these in the future.

The postholder will based in London, with occasional travel to Vietnam and the Gambia

Candidates may apply either (i) for both posts, or (ii) for a single post. This is the PCV post. Please go to the following link to apply for the HPV post: https://jobs.lshtm.ac.uk/Vacancy.aspx?ref=EPH-IDE-59A&forced=1.

You will be able to have the same responses for the first 8 supporting statements on both EPH-IDE-59A and EPH-IDE-59B, and the remaining statements are specific to each post and should be answered accordingly.

The successful applicant must have a PhD in mathematical modelling, health economics, statistics, epidemiology or another relevant discipline with a strong quantitative component. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in mathematical modelling, preferably on infectious diseases, and have good publication record. Experience working in public health contexts, ideally in low- or middle-income country settings would be an advantage

The posts are available immediately and funded for 24 months (HPV post) or for 36 months (PCV post), with the opportunity for renewal subject to further funding. The appointments will be made on LSHTM’s Research Fellow scale Grade 6, £38,533 to £43,759 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year. Membership of the USS Pension Scheme is available.

Applications should be made on-line via our website jobs.lshtm.ac.uk. The reference for this post is EPH-IDE-59A. Applications should include the names and email contacts of 2 referees who can be contacted immediately if shortlisted. Any queries regarding the application process may be addressed to jobs@lshtm.ac.uk.

Please note that if you cannot attend the interview we may not be able to offer you an alternative date.
