Teaching Assistant in Chemical Engineering

Duties & Responsibilities

Position Summary: 
The Department of Chemical Engineering is seeking a suitable candidate to work as Teaching Assistant (TA) to support the program. The position is available on Fall 2017. 

(a)   Tutoring: 

  • Prepare office hours to assist students on the lecture course material. 
  • The tutor works together with the course instructor. 
  • It is necessary to report to the instructor at least once every two weeks for feedback and discussion; it is also good to attend some lectures. 
  • Tutors are also expected to help find instructional and practical problems to be solved in class. 

(b)   Lab Demonstration: 

  • To prepare and conduct lab experiments 
  • To develop new active learning tools to be used in labs such as open – ended design problems to be done in labs 
  • To prepare lab sheets and lab assignments 

(c)   Grading: 

  • Evaluates weekly student assignments. 
  • Fill in the list / grade sheet with the results regularly. 
  • Gives the updated copy of the list at least every two weeks to the instructor and before midterm and final exams. 
  • Regularly communicate observations to the instructor. 

(d)   Research: 

  • To be involved in research with particular faculty 

(e)   Services: 

  • To assist the department’s and program’s initiatives  

(f)    Other Competencies:  

  • Ability to assist in teaching chemical and general engineering courses in various forms: grading, tutorials, practical laboratories, computer based sessions. 
  • Ability to assist in various activities aimed at developing the Department's resources. 
  • Ability to communicate in English to students and faculty members orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to use process simulation tools.


  1. B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering with an excellent scholastic record and a M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. 
  2. Experience and proven skills in using simulation software such HYSYS and Aspen Plus. 
  3. Good command of the English language. 
  4. Outstanding professional record in providing tutorial, practical laboratory and computing laboratory support in all core and technical elective courses. 
  5. Grading of student assignments and assisting in various other tasks related to the development of the Department. 
  6. Qatar residence.
