PRODUCER/EDITOR, DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATIONS
The Development Communications team is at the forefront of messaging on behalf of the Campaign for Boston University. Responsible for creating all of the content used by the advancement staff and alums, this team is award-winning for their web-design, video productions, print materials and proposal design.
The Development Communications Producer/Editor is responsible for assisting the Integrated Media Producer in conceptualizing, writing, producing, and editing video content—from promotional videos to video proposals and testimonials to event collateral—in support of the University’s development efforts. The person in this position will play a central role in scheduling and executing video shoots, working with sources both internal and external to shape messaging, style, and scope of video projects, and will at time draft scripts and other written content in support of the University’s development efforts. The person in this position works closely with other editorial staff members, designers, DAR New Media, development colleagues, University faculty and administrators, students, and donors and prospects at all levels to create engaging and accurate communication materials, on deadline. The Producer-Editor is also responsible for contributing to and helping implement strategic, marketing, and campaign plans developed by the department, and will also serve from time to time as an on-site producer at BU events.
In collaboration with the DevCom Integrated Media Producer, this position will conceive, schedule, and execute video shoots—on and off campus—related to DAR efforts. This includes booking interview subjects and crew, scouting and reserving shoot locations, and obtaining necessary permissions, as well as performing basic video-editing tasks for DAR clients in collaboration with outside vendors and BU communications colleagues, and assist in content editing and review of video products.
In collaboration with designers and development staffers, this position will conceive, research, and write engaging and accurate communications suited to the needs of specific audiences and situations, on deadline. This includes the creation of video scripts and also website/social media copy, e-solicitations, magazine and newsletter articles, brochures, and advertisements, as well as manage assigned projects and carry out simple web development (within University templates) as needed.
The Producer-Editor will also interview donors, faculty members, administrators, students, and outside sources to generate content for development-related communications and simultaneously build good will toward the University, as well as conduct filmed interviews as needed for video projects. Helping the Development Communications team plan and carry out long-term communication and marketing strategies to support Development & Alumni Relations in a campaign environment.
A bachelor’s degree in journalism, broadcast journalism, film and/or television production, marketing, or a related field required, as are three to five years of video production and editing/writing experience required. Previous university or other nonprofit development communication experience—particularly in a campaign environment—is desirable. Excellent writing and editing skills, research skills, and interviewing skills are a must. Experience writing/creating video content is a plus. The ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks on deadline is important. Excellent interpersonal skills required; must be able to work effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels within and outside Boston University. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and video editing software such as Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro is necessary. AfterEffects and WordPress capabilities are desirable. This position works 40 hours per week. Evening and weekend work is required as needed to set up and attend events and accommodate the schedules of video subjects.
