Job Outline

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, designing, analysing, and providing technical support and consultancies for campus IT System, data and communication network or cloud computing services and other growing needs. To conduct research and evaluation of system/network technology and recommend purchases of system and network equipment. Properties. Will be part of a team that is responsible for designing and developing scalable, maintainable, highly available system/network architectures that meet business objectives and SLAs.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor degree or above in Information Technology , Computer Sciences and related disciplines;
  • Minimum of two years of professional IT support experience;
  • Proven ability to understand enterprise-level system/network topologies and actual operational skills in managing the University’s system/network;
  • Excellent operational, change and service management skills;
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills;
  • Good organisational skills;
  • Knowledge of diverse IT resources;
  • 2+ years’ experience of managing, support and developing large IT system support experience;
  • Customer service experience;
  • Experience of dealing with complex and specialist technical issues related to system/network;
  • Ability to acquire new technical IT skills in a rapidly changing discipline;
  • Good organisational, problem-solving and analytical skills;
  • Committed positive and proactive approach to customer care;
  • Ability to work flexibly and to provide some out of hours support;
  • Ability to work under own initiative and as a member of a team;
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure;
  • Attention to details;
  • Must be able and prepared to work under pressure.

Desirable

  • Master degree;
  • Relevant IT Certifications (e.g. CCNP or higher, CISSP, RHCE, ITIL);
  • Consistent experience of working at network areas;
  • Knowledge of diverse IT resources;
  • Good methodical and analytical skills;
  • Good time management and reasoning skills;

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Consult and evaluate requirements, recommend designs, provide cost analyses, plan projects, and coordinate tasks for installation of system and network;
  • Analyze and resolve technical problems for established system and network;
  • Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the system and network infrastructures;
  • Serve as technical specialist in system and network problems and emergencies;
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system and network production problems;
  • Conduct technical research on network upgrades and components to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with current system;
  • Oversee and supervise third-party vendors and suppliers’ system and network components installation, configuration and maintenance;
  • Work with third-party vendors to resolve complex system and network problems;
  • Evaluate and recommend system and network solutions for short-, medium-, and long-term network projects;
  • Determine plan layout for new hardware or modifications to existing layout;
  • Work as a team member with other technical staff, such as system administrators to ensure connectivity and compatibility between systems;
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network;
  • Monitor the University’s system and network and investigate a violation when one occurs;
  • Install and use software and hardware to expand the IT Operation efficiency and productivity;
  • Research the latest Information Technology trends, especially in Cloud Computing, Big Data and Machine Learning;
  • Recommend/apply enhancements to management or senior IT staff;
  • Performs related duties as required, some out of hours on-call support will be required;
  • Participate in training and staff development schemes as trainer or trainee as appropriate;
  • Maintain appropriate professional development, expertise and awareness;
  • Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required;
  • Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the person appointed.
