Salary:  £22,494 to £31,076 plus £4546 London weighting

The Natural Resources Institute (NRI) (www.nri.org) is an internationally renowned multi-disciplinary centre of the University of Greenwich that undertakes research, consultancy and training to support sustainable development, food security, economic growth and poverty reduction in developing countries.  The Produce Quality Centre (PQC) (www.pqc.org.uk) is a collaborative research centre established between the NRI and NIAB- East Malling Research that focuses on UK based research on post-harvest management of perishable produce.

The PQC is currently running projects on a range of fresh produce with government and commercial funding. An opportunity has arisen for a Postharvest Research Assistant, initially for a period of 20 months to support trials both in the field and in the laboratory.  The research assistant will:
•           Assist in produce quality assessment for a range of storage trials
•           Undertake sample preparation for analysis
•           Assist in coordinating field trials, and collecting samples from field and storage locations off site (mainly within Kent,   Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire).
•           Undertake laboratory based trials to investigate postharvest biology of fresh produce with supervision from experienced staff
•           Manage data sets, including data input and analysis
•           Provide support on management of the Postharvest facilities
