General Manager, Commercial Operations
QUT bluebox is the Queensland University of Technology’s (QUT) innovation and commercialisation company, supporting staff, students and the community in the realisation of impact from research, innovation and entrepreneurship endeavours.
The role of General Manager, Commercial Operations has responsibility for leading a small team of commercial advisors, whom work collaboratively with QUT’s researchers, students and alumni, in the assessment, development and protection of intellectual property. The aim of the team is to translate these innovations into the market, through various mechanisms, where they will have positive commercial and social impact.
Reporting to the CEO, the GM will develop and implement plans to maximise commercialisation opportunities derived from a wide range of academic disciplines and thought leadership, whilst facilitating stakeholder engagement, internally and externally. The GM will identify and prioritise projects that have the potential to create viable outcomes, guiding the team accordingly. Building a strong team culture of collaboration and inclusiveness will be important.
You will have proven leadership skills and a strong track record in closing out viable deals. You will have strong knowledge in the management of IP and of the commercialisation eco-system, including licensing, start-ups, spin-offs and legal contracting. Post graduate qualifications in a relevant discipline are important but not essential, and strong project management skills are required.
