We are looking for an individual with working or practical experience in impact testing of materials and structures, to join our dynamic testing team.
Cranfield Impact Centre (CIC) is a testing laboratory with over 30 years’ experience of testing structures across a variety of industries. We have been at the forefront in formulating legislation for Formula 1 and Coach Industries.
Our unique facilities include a sled track, static test bed and a range of drop towers to perform a comprehensive range of tests.  Structures that we regularly test include Formula 1 nose cones, aircraft seats and packaging, for our high profile, clients.

You will be responsible for providing engineering and design support to colleagues, on all aspects, to enable CIC to meet customer and legislative requirements.  This can include:

  • Performing static and dynamic tests in a team environment, as well as being responsible for the deliverables to the clients
  • Developing procedures and tools for mechanical testing, including validating testing activities and analysing results
  • Participate in design verification of new equipment by using mathematical modelling

You must have a BEng/BSc degree in Mechanical or Electrical or similar discipline, or equivalent qualifications, or experience, and experience of impact testing of materials and structures.  To succeed in this role you should be able to demonstrate experience of instrumentation and control systems, specifically, the use of sensors such as accelerometers, load cells and practical experience of developing test procedures.

It would be advantageous if you already hold membership of a professional organisation such as IMechE.  You should ideally also have working experience of calibration of instrumentation and proven experience of co-ordinating facility resources, including interpretation of financial aspects.
