The Victorian College of the Arts has a significant national reputation and has long established a dynamic, forward-looking presence with a clear mission to prepare artists with a lifelong commitment to making a positive contribution to the profession and the broader community. VCA Music Theatre offers conservatoire-style tertiary education that trains industry-ready, professional performers with a strong sense of individual expression.
Our highly successful department is expanding and we currently have four positions available within our Music Theatre team. We are seeking applicants who may specialise in teaching singing, dancing or acting at the highest level, or who have a portfolio of skills that might include direction, musical direction, music theatre accompaniment, movement or spoken voice. You will come to us with experience teaching at a tertiary level, recognised standing in the profession, and the capacity to provide relevant industry experience to support student and graduate achievement.
The successful applicants will be interested in becoming part of a passionate team of professional teaching artists who are all autonomous, creative and collaborative. Your teaching practice will demonstrate a clear commitment to continually developing innovative practices that respond to the integration of the three skill areas of music theatre performance, the ever-changing nature of the form and the need to prepare students for diverse professional careers. You will successfully prepare and deliver studio-based practical training, collaborate with and mentor academic staff in the development and delivery of curriculum and contribute to artistic projects. In addition, the position requires substantial subject coordination and academic oversight responsibilities, so demonstrable skills in these areas are required, whether through previous experience in a similar tertiary positions or other professional roles.
These are full time positions with both ongoing (tenured) and fixed term positions available, depending on academic qualifications and experience. The expected start date is January 2018 (or as negotiated). The incumbents will be based at the Southbank campus in the heart of Melbourne's cultural precinct.
