Assistant Professor in Problem Based Learning
The Assistant Professor is to teach (but not limited to) in the Problem-Based Learning academic units and other related activities required by the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program; conduct research/publish, consult, and provide general administration support to teaching within the section the staff is appointed. To conduct seminars, workshops and visits to appropriate organizations to enhance the delivery of the program. The role of the Associate Professor will involve planning and teaching programs of study, assist in program curriculum development, assessing student progress and provide advice and guidance to students, acting as a mentor where necessary to department staff members. Other duties may include assisting with the enrolment of students and the preparation of their personal study programs amongst others.
Assistant Professor will work with students in their content areas of expertise. The teaching of students will be on a one‐to‐one basis or in small group sessions. PBL Assistant Professor will provide specialized instruction in individual subject areas, answer questions on course content, and aid in the comprehension of course material.
They must be patient and understanding, as well as be able to assist, evaluate, motivate, develop and integrate their students in learning.
A relevant Master’s degree in any clinical discipline/ health-related sciences with specialist registration and 5 years relevant work experience.
Eligibility for registration with the Fiji Medical Council is desirable.
Demonstrated curriculum development experience, and research/publication, and/or consultancy experience, in the relevant field is essential.
A Tertiary clinical teaching experience in a recognized formal undergraduate and /or postgraduate surgical program at a Medical training institution would be an advantage. Industrial/professional experiences or professional training experiences are necessary.
The applicant must have experience of working as a specialist (post specialist registration) in the relevant field. Letter of conformation of good standing from the applicants Medical Council is necessary.
An Assistant Professor shall have demonstrated ability to make significant contribution to the discipline through research and /or scholarship. In research and /or scholarship and /or teaching they shall demonstrate the ability to make original contributions which expand knowledge and practice in their disciplines.
An attractive salary commensurate with qualifications and abilities would be negotiated with the successful applicant.
