Pro Vice Chancellor - Research, Business and Innovation
Kingston University

Kingston University is the largest higher education provider in South West London, with students from over 140 countries and an annual income of around £200 million. Its four campuses are located within a four-mile radius of Kingston-upon-Thames town centre, which is just 30 minutes by train from central London.

Research plays a central role in the University; through a variety of individual cutting-edge projects and the development of multi-disciplinary centres of research excellence, Kingston has made significant strides in creating a broad range of industry-acclaimed research.  Sixty per cent of the University’s research was rated as world-leading and internationally excellent as a result of the Government’s Research Excellence Framework (2014).

The University also plays an active role in nurturing innovation and enterprise. By producing applied research, developing technology transfer and sharing knowledge it has become a driving force in forging strong links between education and the business community. Kingston graduates have produced more start-up companies than any other UK higher education institution for six years, topping the tables in the Higher Education Business and Community Interaction Survey.

The incoming Pro Vice Chancellor - Research, Business and Innovation will focus on the strategic leadership, management, planning and co-ordination of the University’s academic endeavours. Kingston University is committed to enhancing its research and enterprise, emphasising the need for a step change in the scale and scope of the University’s activities in this regard, revenue-base, outputs and outcomes; as well as its research and enterprise-related partnerships.

Candidates will demonstrate outstanding leadership credentials, alongside an ability to inspire and motivate staff across all disciplines. This will be combined with a first-rate academic reputation, as well as an innovative and ambitious approach to modernising and expanding the impact of research. The successful candidate will be keyed into developments across both the public and private sectors, with an in-depth knowledge of industry related research and enterprise.
