The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. The Research Operations Office manages the School's portfolio of external research funding, with responsibility for pre-award, post-award and contract support. Stakeholders across the School include academic staff and project managers, based both in London and overseas. The team manages over 200 applications each year and a portfolio of nearly 600 grants from a wide spectrum of funders with a total value exceeding £200M.
The Research Operations Office is looking for a pragmatic Finance Manager with excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take the lead in the ongoing development of our post-award function and responsibility for overseeing a research portfolio of over 500 grants. The post holder you will manage a team of 8 Research Finance Administrations, ensuring timely and accurate submission of financial reports, whilst reviewing our Aged Debt and Work In Progress.
This is a new role within the department, and offers a fantastic opportunity to the successful applicant to help create and implement new procedures & processes at a critical time in the development of the Research Operation Office.
The post holder will have extensive experience in the management of research finance administration in a Higher Education setting and experience of research funder’s online systems, such as JE-S, ERA Commons, Grants.Gov, ECAS. The successful candidate will hold a higher education to degree level qualification or have substantial relevant experience.
You will have line management experience and strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage workload allocation, develop and support staff through formal and informal frameworks e.g. using appraisals and one to one meetings, and motivate staff to deliver an excellent service.
The post is full-time and permanent. The salary will be on the Professional Support Pathway Grade 7 scale in the range £44,226 to £50,629 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London, Keppel Street.
